Balafon.wpntr2018-12-19T17:55:49+00:00The Balafon is a kind of wooden xylophone. The centres of the Balafon music are Mali and Guinea. Records of the Balafon go back to 1352 where it was played at the royal court of Mali. The number of the wood keys is variable. This instrument is tuned in a pentatonic scale. Under the key hang graduated-size calabash gourd resonators. A small hole in each gourd is covered with a membrane traditionally of thin spider’s-egg sac filaments to produce a nasal-buzz timbre. Usually the Balafon is played with two gum-rubber-wound mallets
