So I

The ‘So i’  from Laos is an instrument played with a bow. It has some similarities with the Chinese ‘Erhu’ and instruments common in Thailand and Cambodia. While the board of this instrument was made in former times from a piece of bamboo, hardwood is preferred for a better tone of voice. Due to the fact that the bow rubs the cover made from snakeskin an extra leather is added to the upper part of this instrument for protection.
