Zither

Especially played in Turkey, Egypt and Syria this skewed instrument is accepted as a zither. This instrument is played on the lap and meanwhile the long part of the instrument is opposite the player.72 strings made from nylon stand for 24 strings reflecting 3 voice forms. It is usually played with two plectrum worn on two thumbs. There are 1 or 9 metal parts for tuning each voice tone near the wooden board of the instrument. These parts can be curled inwards according to the situation. There are 24 different tone for each octave in Turkish music. The parts used for tuning enable the player to increase the voice tone of the strings from one sixth to three quarters. The area below the top part comprises of leather and has 4 sections. The bridge of the instrument is located at the middle of this leather. This instrument plays an important role in classical music in Turkey.
