Originating from central Asia, it is a stringed instrument having a body looking like ‘lute’ and it is played by a plectrum. It is made from such trees as mahogany, walnut tree, pulm tree and ‘vengi’ (a kind of African tree). It is played by pulling its strings with the index finger and thumb of the right hand. It is used in Turkish folk music.
