Bandura

The typical Ukraine instrument Bandura is originating from another instrument called Gusli. Having an asymmetric and oval board and a flat bottom, Bandura is a kind of zither. There are 12 bass strings which are tuned with tuners on the short and fretless handle and 43 strings for playing the melody. It was a popular instrument especially among the traveller musicians, and Kazakstani who felt responsiblity for the religious traditions of Ukraine. This instrument is pressed to the femur while being played, it is hold nearly at a straight position and all the fingers in both hands are used. Artificial nails are used as plectrum. In spite of being a diatonic instrument with 20-24 strings at first, it became a chromatic instrument with 43 strings for melodic purpose and 12 strings for bass.
