Domu

These two instruments, the old bow harp types, having a body carved in then a vicular shape are played by the‘Mangbetu’ community in Congo and they both have a cylindrical extension reaching to its neck in front of the instrument. The whole body is coated with perentielizardor snake skin, and this skin is stabilised either by needles or by glue. The neck part is made from ivory and carved with figures which show a crocodile eating a fish(left) or a person (right). The right instrument has a second carved head figure apart from the sea and the four tuner sare made from ivory. ’Mangbetu’ community calls this instrument ‘Domu’.
