Dona,Teen, Ding

These fretless and three stringed instruments are common instruments of the Shanregion in Myanmar. The instrument on the left is played by Paoh community living aorund the Inle Lake. The head part where the tuners are also located has a peacock shape. The top is made of iron sheet. This instrument is called as ‘Done Teen’ or ‘Paoh Banjo’ by the Paoh community. The instrument on theright is a very simple instrument and played by the‘Palaung’ community and called as ‘Ding’ or ‘Palaung Banjo’. There is a sound hole on theright side of the instrument. There are many variations of western instruments in Myanmar (three stringed Violin, Banjo, Mandoline). These names are often used for their own instruments like the name ‘Banjo’.
