Gusle

The body of the Gusle, the instrument belonging to the South Slavonion community, is completed made of one  piece of wood. The cover is made from animal skin and it is possible to see a lot of small holes on it. The only string attached to the tuner of the instrument at the neck part is made from horse mane. The instrument is hold with the four fingers of left hand in the air. It is only possible to play five different tones, one tone for background music, and four tones having a changeable sound volume depending on the anatomic structure and largeness of the four fingers. The singer (Guslar) adjusts his voice according to these tones. According to the estimation, Gusle is the oldest bowed string instrument of Europe and the only instrument in Europe with an animalskin cover.
