Lyra Similar Instrument

This unusual instrument without a handle from Namibia has the characteristic features of both lyre and a lute. It is produced of one piece of wood. Two arms are tied together with a piece of wood and above is a sort of pegbox for 6 strings. The strings are stabilised at a place which is covered at the bottom part of the instrument. This stabilising process is done with small pieces of wood. Its construction resembles the ‘Rotta’, an instrument of the Anglo-Saxons in middle age. Hence, this instrument is studied under the lyre category.
