Ravanhatha

It is a kind of instrument used by the Bhopas, vagrant minstrels and musicians in Rajasthan/India which originate from the vicinity of Jaipur and it is possible to meet them everywhere in Rajasthan. The board of this instrument, a kind of violine, composes of the bark of coconut. This instrument has two strings one of which is used to accompany. These strings usually consist drilled brass wire. Sometime they made from horse mane hair. Moreover, the number of resonance strings of the Ravanhatha can show some differances. Generally, small bells are hung on the bow with its horse mane hair for stressing.
