Sudan and Uganda Lyres

The strings of these two lyres are made from plants and they are stabilised by the soil technique. The instrument on the right is estimated to originate from Uganda. Its top part is covered with antelope leather. The strings are curled up inwards by a hole at the top of the instrument. They are curled up inside and stabilised by a wooden stick. The left box shaped lyre is probably originating from Sudan. Its strings are produced from cords and they are tuned by twisting the windings at the saddle
