Its roots are in Arabia and it was completed by ‘El Farabi’ in 10th century. It is the fundamental instrument in the Arabic-speaking countries. It was an example for most of the European lutes. Chords are not played with the Ud. It is always played in a melodic way. This large instrument has a body attached each other with many ribs. The tuner box is twisted backwards. It has some sound holes on its cover with ornamentations related with Arabesque culture
