It is usually played by right hand nails while the fingers of the left hand damp the strings which are out of the played tune. The higher tuned strings are near the player. The number of the either pentatonic or chromatics tuned strings differs between 5 or 35. This modern German instrument, we have now, has 10 metallic strings.
