Kashmiri Sarang

The ‘Kashmiri Sarang’ (right) played in Kashmir looks like a ‘Sarangi’ from India. But this instrument is smaller than the Sarangi. Its body has a box-shaped form. It has a 10 cm base ornamented with a frame formed by being rubbed two pieces. In the tuner box are seven pegs. And eleven tuners are attached to the side part of the instrument for the resonance strings. This instrument is very popular among the ‘Sufis’ (derwishes). It is believed in Kashmir that this instrument was invented by ‘Maharaja Sarang Dev’, a former ruler of Kashmir.
