Waji

This bowed harp comes from the  ‘Kafir’ region in the Northeast of Afghanistan. It has a bow passing through the resonance body. The rhombus body part is made from wood and coated with animal skin. The four strings are tied by using rope. This kind of harps are among the oldest harp kinds. The old story-tellers play ‘Waji’ by beating all strings with a plectrum at the same time and they hold one or two strings with their other hand to dampen them.
